I SKOVENS DYBE STILLE RO

The Letter for today is "J"= Joyful card!

I skovens dybe stille ro!
An old Danish evening song. It is thought to date back to abt. 1864.
I think of it, and sing it often at Christmas/Winter time. Only because of the last 2 sentences:

Now the bells are silent - the peace of night now covers everything.
Christ came, everything was silent! His love will cover us - His love atoned for us, all of us
!

This may not be the best translation of this beautiful song, but it was the only one I could find.

In the deep quiet tranquility of the forest

In the deep, quiet tranquility of the forest,
where armies of singers live,
where the soul listened many a time to the happy song of the bird.
There is idyllic quiet peace in the loneliness of the forest,
and the longings of the heart are silent here, where peace and rest are.

Hear the village bell sounds, announcing evening peace.
The little bird before it takes a nap, still twitters for a while.
In the marsh, a frog is croaking loudly, heavily field and lake are steaming,
now the bell quietens, - the evening's peace quietly lowers down

  1. Beautiful song Conny, the words are lovely. You did a wonderful job creating a card inspired by the music, the night sky certainly looks very peaceful. The large bells on the front are very festive, love the pine sprigs.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
