Adventskransen - The wreath of Advent
Many, no, let's be honest: almost most older Danish Christmas traditions come from Germany.
Our beloved Christmas wreath was also originally German.
King Christian the 10th's German-born Queen Alexandrine brought this tradition with her, when she came to Denmark.
During the Second World War, the wreath's symbolism of light made good sense. It was a dark time - and the lights brought hope.
You light 1 candle every Sunday, starting with the 4th Sunday before Christmas Eve.
Next Sunday, you light 2 candles - and so on.
In the beginning, the wreath was typically red/white, but today there are no rules for how it can look or what color it can have.

Under 2. verdenskrig gav kransen lyssymbolik god mening.
Gorgeous Conny, what a beautiful scene you have created! Great choice of card fold too, it shows off all the beautiful die cuts perfectly. I really like the night sky in the background and the big star of Bethlehem. Wonderful!
