The letter today is H = herringbone technique
This  was a technique I learned a few years ago - through Beccys challenges.
That is one of the reasons I love the month of Nov: There's always something new to learn!


A unique Christmas tradition: NISSEN

Completely unique to us in Denmark is that we have NISSEN. Other countries have gnomes, elves and goblings.
NISSEN is described in Danish folklore as far back as 1823! With inspiration from that time, the Danes have created what we now call NISSEN.
Nissen got his name from the Danish boy name Niels.
NISSEN teases both children and adults. Mostly it's in a good way... 
In the old days, he lived in the attic, in the barn or stable. Common was that on December 24th, a bowl of rice porridge with a spoonful of butter and cinnamon on top, was put up in the attic. I remember this tradition! 
Kravlenissen/Crawling-Nisse is also Danish. In 1947, an artist Frederik Bramming invented this small whimsical figure, which hangs in windows, on walls - indeed everywhere in the home - As something new, this crawling nisse -  has made its entrance, on the outside of the houses!

Helt unikt for os i Danmark, er at vi har NISSEN. Andre lande har gnomes, alfer og goblings.
Nissen beskrives i Danske Follkesagn helt tilbage til 1823! Med inspiration fra dengang, har danskerne skabt det som vi nu kalder NISSEN.
Nissen har fået sit navn fra det danske drengenavn Niels.
Nissen driller både børn og voksne.

I gamle dage boede han på loftet, i laden eller stalden. Fælles var at man d. 24 Dec satte en skål risengrød med smørklat og kanel, frem til ham.

 
Kravlenissen er Dansk. I 1947 opfandt knustneren Frederik Bramming denne lille finurlige figur, som hænger i vinduer, på vægge - ja overalt i hjemmet - Som noget nyt, er nissen ved at tage sit indtog, på ydersiden af husene.
